GERMANY ~ Schleimunde Lighthouse -

... Pretty lighthouse night view... it marks the entrance from the baltic sea to the fjord Schlei (the only fjord in Germany)... the lighthouse is only accessible by a boat trip starting in Kappeln... Schleimünde is a little popular haven... there is a small sailing port... now the lighthouse has green and white stripes... but since it was built  the colour changed eight times... with great matching stamp and two wonderful  special first day postmarks👍... the colourful ring around the lighthouse stamp shows its different colours during the decades... Thanks a lot Dustin!【ツ】

The Lighthouse Schleimünde is a lighthouse at the mouth of the river Schlei and went into action in 1871 and with its modern halogen light can be seen from up to 15 nautical miles away.

Between 1790 and 1980 Schleimünde was home to a pilot who helped ships navigate into the shallow waters of the Schlei Fjord.

He assisted up to 260 ships annually. Nowadays several buoys have taken over this job.
