CANADA ~ Fallen Four Memorial Park - Mayerthorpe ~

... Lovely painting  of "The Fallen Four" by Rosemary Luksha... a beautiful memorial to pay tribute to the officers who were murdered at a nearby farm in 2005, in what was the worst single-day loss of life for the RCMP in its history.... a very well-kept, heart-warming and peaceful park for the public to enjoy.... there are lovely walkways, plantings and benches... the Fallen Four Memorial Park and Visitor Information Centre is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and welcomes thousands of visitors each year... the bronze statues are amazing likenesses and the detail of their clothing is incredible... the park is also a tribute to all Peace Officers who have lost their lives doing their job... it was one of the saddest days in Alberta history☹... Thanks a lot Glenn!(✿ ♥‿♥)
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), formerly (until 1920) North West Mounted Police, byname Mounties, Canada's federal police force. It is also the provincial and criminal police establishment in all provinces except Ontario and Quebec and the only police force in the Yukon and Northwest territories.

The Fallen Four Memorial Park officially opened on July 4, 2008 in front of a crowd of about 3,000 people. The idea of this park was created after the tragic shootings of four RCMP constables on March 3, 2005.

The Mayerthorpe tragedy occurred on the farm of James Roszko,  near the town of Mayerthorpe in the Canadian province of Alberta. Roszko shot and killed four Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) constables: Anthony Gordon, Lionide "Leo" Johnston, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann. He then committed suicide. The attack occurred as the officers were executing a search warrant for stolen property and a marijuana-growing operation on the farm. Two individuals who were not present at the shooting, Shawn Hennessey and Dennis Cheeseman, pled guilty to manslaughter for assisting Roszko to return to his farm.
