GERMANY ~ University of Helmstedt ~

... Pretty views of the former university... one of the most highly prominent and popular universities in the Holy Roman Empire... it became one of the largest German universities... showing the seal and statues for Theology, Philosophy, Geometrie and music... the Juleum building was the great historical auditorium of the University... built between 1592 and 1612 in the Weser Renaissance style it is one of the most important secular buildings of this era in northern Germany... today it houses the district and university museum of Helmstedt, a large hall for cultural events and the remaining inventory of the old university library... with as *always* a fantastic postmark💙celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of iconic composer Ludwig van Beethoven and matching stamp👍...  Big Thanks once more Dustin!【ツ】

Founded by and named after Duke Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel on 15 October 1576, the first university of the duchy and the first Protestant university of the northern Holy Roman Empire. The university had four faculties for theology, law, medicine and philosophy including the seven liberal arts and great auditorium, the Juleum Novum.

In the late 18thC, Helmstedt lost popularity to newer universities, such as the University of Göttingen. It was closed in 1810 on initiative of Johannes von Müller, director of public instruction in the Kingdom of Westphalia.
