... Fantastic view of the finest and largest National park in New Zealand... and one of the largest in the world... this remarkable natural environment features stunning fiords, untouched rainforest, shimmering lakes, spectacular waterfalls and snow-capped peaks... the west coast is deeply indented by 14 fiord's stretching over 215 kilometres... a slice of nature at its best... the Fiordland NP attracts 560,000 visitors per year, of which around 80% are foreigners... despite these numbers, this National Park remains largely unexplored, not only because of its remote location, but also because of its immense size... "the Routeburn Track" is the favorite option out of New Zealand's "Great Walks" for anyone who wants a walking-at-the-top-of-the-world experience... this 32-kilometer trail takes two to four days... along the way, the trail passes through meadows and alpine pastures, past waterfalls and traversing swing bridges, over gorges, and up into the mountain highlands with extensive vistas across the Southern Alps...once more a nature lover's dream destination on a postcardđđđ... Thanks a lot Susan!【ă】
Fiordland National Park is over 1.2 million hectares in size and located on the South Island of New Zealand. It was established in 1952.
The variety of habitats in this National Park allow a diverse flora and fauna to thrive and its isolation has meant a large number of unique species, over seven hundred plants, are found only here.
Fiordland National Park is, and was, home to some of the strangest of New Zealand’s birds. Also there is the kea, the only alpine parrot in the world and the kiwi, which is native to New Zealand.
The world’s only flightless parrot, the kĂ€kĂ€po live here.
Te Wahipounamu (MÄori for "the place of greenstone") was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1990 and covering 26,000 km², the site incorporates four national parks: Aoraki/Mt Cook, Fiordland,Mt Aspiring and Westland National Park.
