GERMANY ~ St. Nicholas Church - Leipzig ~

... German beauty nr3... a church related to two important events in history... Johann Sebastian Bach was the musical director of St Nicholas Church and many of his works were premiered here.... what makes it one of Leipzig's Musical Heritage sites... and this church became famous in 1989 with the Monday Demonstrations, a peaceful revolt against Communist rule in East Germany, which was the forerunner to the fall of the Berlin Wall...with great special "Stamp Day" postmark... Thanks a lot Dustin!!

The St. Nicholas Church is is the largest church in Leipzig. Construction started in Romanesque style in 1165, but in the 16th century, the church was turned into a Gothic hall church. Baroque elements like the tower were added in the 18th century. The interior has been classicist in style since the end of the 18th century.
