Italy ~ Majella National Park - Abruzzo ~

... Great Abruzzo region National Park nr2... a green lung in the heart of Italy, near to Rome... known for its dramatic mountain scenery... imposing canyons... diverse landscapes and untouched nature... there are  about 500 km of hiking trails through the mountains and more than 100 caves... Majella National Park was established in 1991 and it extends over an area of ​​about 74.000ha in the region Abruzzo. It is centered on the Majella massif, whose highest peak is Monte Amaro (2,793 m). This mountain is considered by the Abruzzi as the mother mountain, the most inaccessible and wildest area of ​​the Central Apennine.

The most representative animal of the Majella territories is the Apennine wolf which is also present in the park's logo and it relies on a population of 70 estimated wolves distributed in eleven packs across the main mountain ranges of the protected area.
