CROATIA ~ Cavtat ~

... A lovely bit different kind of postcard design sent by my niece♥... a tranquil, unspoilt, authentic Dalmatian harbour town on the Adriatic coast... with beautiful palaces, summer houses and hotels, pleasant climate, dense vegetation, beautiful beaches and coves... the more peaceful and less expensive alternative to Dubrovnik... Hééél Erg Bedankt Dorien!! (♥‿♥)

Cavtat is the most southern town in Croatia and is itself part of the Dubrovnik Riviera located around 20 km south of Dubrovnik and only 22 km from the border with Montenegro. It is the centre of the Konavle municipality. Its name is derived from Civitas Vetus, that means old city in Latin Language.

It used to be the flourishing famous city Epidaurum, well known in the ancient times and after the total destruction in the 7th century only the deserted ruins remained. When the Republic bought Cavtat with Konavle in the 15th century it was built up again on the ruins of the old city.
