Kakum National Park, located in the coastal environs of the Central Region of Ghana, covers an area of 375 square kilometres (145 sq mi). Established in 1931 as a reserve, and was upgraded to national park status in 1992. The area is covered with tropical rainforest.
This protected rainforest is home to an assortment of wild residents, including forest elephants, giant hogs, flying squirrels, leopards and various species of monkey.
