Mandalay Region  (formerly Mandalay Division) is an administrative division of Myanmar. It is located in the center of the country. The regional capital is Mandalay.

Bagan is located in the central plain of Myanmar. Ancient city of kings between XI and XIII centuries competed to see who built more temples, taller, and more gold, reaching the incredible figure of 13,000 temples. Today about 2,500 Buddhist monuments (temples, stupas, monasteries, etc) are preserved.

Bagan became a UNESCO WHS site in 2019.
