Bad Gastein (1.083m) is a spa town in the Austrian state of Salzburg. Picturesquely situated in a high valley of the Hohe Tauern mountain range, it is known for the Gastein Waterfall and a variety of Belle Époque hotel buildings.
In the heart of the Austrian Alps, Hohe Tauern National Park provides endangered animal and plant species with a protected habitat of 1800 km² in area. This National Park is the largest in Austria and actually the second largest in Europe.
