Guernsey Island is a British Crown dependency and the main island of the Channel Islands of Guernsey.

Although the defence of the island is the responsibility of the United Kingdom, the Bailiwick of Guernsey is not part of the U.K. but rather a collection of separate possessions of the Crown . The Bailiwick of Guernsey is also not part of the European Union. Together with the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey is included in the grouping known as the Channel Islands. The Bailiwick of Guernsey belongs to the Common Travel Area.
