GERMANY ~Speyer on the Rhein~

This card is one of the two officials that I received today! A nice view of one of the last remaining parts of the old citywall! Thanks Uwe!
The German Post has issued a set of two stamps illustrating two famous world heritage sites of UNESCO - Yakushi-ji Temple of Nara (Japan) and old town of Regensburg (Bavaria, Germany).

Speyer is a city located beside the river Rhine, founded by the Romans and it is one of Germany's oldest cities. The Old Gate (Altpörtel) is the medieval west city gate of Speyer. One of an original total of 68 towers in the old walls and gates. Today it is one of the largest (55 meters high) and most architecturally significant of the remaining city gates in Germany.
