Bonn is located on the banks of the Rhine in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city served as the capital of West Germany from 1949 until 1990 and was the seat of government for reunified Germany until 1999, when the government relocated to Berlin. The city holds historical significance as the birthplace of Germany's current constitution, the Basic Law.
