USA ~ All Presidents ~

... Great postcard showing all 45 US presidents... from George-Washington to the latest one Donald Trump who is probably one of the most controversial presidents ever... a nice detail, the postcard was bought at the Trump Tower... if anyone counts them (like I did) will notice that there only 44 showing... to solve this mystery, I found out that one president served two non-consecutive terms in office... can you find him?? ʘ‿ʘ... with small matching stamp of the first US president... Thanks a lot Denise!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

From backside postcard:
"Under the U.S. Constitution, the President of the United States is the head of state and the head of government of the United States. As chief of the executive branch and head of the federal government as a whole, the presidency is the highest political office in the United States by influence and recognition."

The youngest president was John F. Kennedy at age 43. The oldest was Ronald Reagan at age 69. The longest-serving president was Franklin D. Roosevelt, who died shortly into his fourth term in office. (The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, limited to two the number of presidential terms one person could serve.) The shortest serving president was William Henry Harrison, who died from pneumonia after a month in office. Stephen Grover Cleveland was the only president in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms in office, he was the 22nd and 24th President.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a city located on the coast in southeast Florida close to Miami. It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area.  The city was first founded by Major William Lauderdale during the Seminole War of 1837-1838. The city grew rapidly during the land boom in Florida during the 1920s.

Fort Lauderdale's port is called Port Everglades, which is a misleading name, as it is not in fact located near the Florida Everglades. Port Everglades is ranked second among cruise ports worldwide and has more home ported cruise ships than any other port.

USA ~ Alabama ~

... Great postcard with map, flag, seal and all the states facts...  Alabama is the only U.S. state without an official nickname... but alternately referred to as the “Heart of Dixie” or the “cotton state”...these nicknames remain popular, along with the "Yellowhammer State", as a modern-day tribute to Alabama history... Thanks Kristin!!【ツ】

Alabama is a state in the southeastern region of the US. It is bordered by Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi.

Alabama was the twenty-second state to be admitted to the union.

The state was indirectly named after a southern Native American tribe that took up residence in central Alabama in the 1500s. Historical accounts have referred to the group as the Alibamo, Alibamu, and Alabamon, among others, but it was the spelling of a river named in their honor that stuck.

Montgomery is the state capital and one of the largest city in Alabama which is known as “bombingham” thanks to its civil rights violence in the past.

USA ~ Signal Hill & Petroglyphs - Saguaro National Park - Arizona ~

... I've been spoiled with so many wonderful postcards this last few weeks㋡... this great NP is one of the most extreme national parks in terms of weather... the Sonoran Desert is one of the hottest and driest regions on the continent... an overlooked gem... with ancient rock art of petroglyphs (Greek for "stone-carvings")... their meaning remains unknown... they could be spiritual symbols, boundary markers or landmarks, records of important events, or just simply ancient graffiti... with beautiful "Saguaro cacti" NP postmark... the state symbol of Arizona...since 1933 this extraordinary giant cactus has been protected within Saguaro National Park... Thanks a million dear Andrene!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Saguaro National Park is a 91,442 acre park located in southern Arizona  and is divided into two districts - Tucson Mountain District (west) and the Rincon Mountain District (east).

This National Park was established on 14 Oct 1994.

Saguaro National Park is named after the cactus saguaro, which is native to the area.

Signal Hill is a minor summit located in the northwest corner of the Tucson Mountain district.  It was a place where native Americans (the prehistoric Hohokam people) carved Petroglyphs into the rocks that are more than 800 years old.

USA ~ White Sands National Monument - New Mexico ~

... Once more a fantastic surprise from dear postcard friend Andrene♥...  a beautiful desert scenery... looks like an endless sea of sand... the world's largest gypsum dune field... a great natural wonder... the glistening white sands of New Mexico... also this time with unique "White Sands" special National Parks stamp cancellationシ... Thanks so much Andrene!!! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

The White Sands National Monument is made up entirely of gypsum crystals that form dunes that stretch over 275 square miles. Located in the Tularosa Basin, the park and the dunes are fully enclosed; there is no outlet to water of any kind, so the gypsum never gets dissolved in water.

Gypsum, what makes up the dunes is actually a clear substance; the dunes appear white like snow because the gypsum grains are constantly banging into each other. The scratches then reflect the sun’s rays making them look white.  Gypsum doesn’t absorb heat from the sun, so even on the hottest day of the year; the dunes are cool and comfortable to walk on.

The White Sands National Monument is completely surrounded by military installations and is periodically closed for a few hours at a time while they carry out testing.

Carlsbad Caverns in the Chihuahuan Desert are one of the world’s most famous, deepest, biggest and most decorated caverns ever found.... giant rooms of limestone, stalagmites, stalactites, cave pearls, and underground lakes....visitors to the cave can hike in on their own via the natural entrance or take an elevator from the visitor center... Thanks sooooo much Andrene!!(✿ ♥‿♥) (P.S. I'm the most lucky one that you found this great postcard for meツ)
Photo:© Mike Jones
"The Big Room is the largest single cave chamber by volume in North America".

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located in the Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico. Carlsbad Cavern is one of over 300 limestone caves in a fossil reef laid down by an inland sea 250 to 280 million years ago. Marine fossils have been found in the rock. The caverns were forged by sulfuric acid – not water erosion, as is the case with most limestone caves and there are no flowing rivers or streams inside the caves.

The park is home to a large number of Mexican Free-tail bats. It was these bats’ guano that was deposited on the floor of the cave and sparked the guano mining industry. It is estimated that the population once ranged in the millions.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park was first designated a National Monument in 1923. It became a National Park in 1930. Carlsbad Caverns was also designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

USA ~ Bandelier National Monument - Tyonyi Ruins - New Mexico ~

... Beautiful nostalgic graphic poster postcard by "Lantern Press Original Poster"... this amazing volcanic landscape is among the most beautiful places containing some of the most unusual and interesting ancient ruins in the Southwest... Bandalier National Monument  isn’t officially a National Park, but the National Park Service manages it (so I will put it under NPツ)...  postmarked with the postal cancellations from the post offices in or nearest to the park sites, what makes it even more special...Big Thanks Andrene!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

Bandelier National Monument is an archaeological area and scenic wilderness of the Pajarito Plateau in New Mexico. Established in 1916, it occupies an area of 53 square miles (137 square km). The monument contains many ruins of cliff and open pueblos (villages) of pre-Columbian Indians, mostly from the 13th century.

One site of archaeological interest in the canyon is Tyuonyi  pueblo and nearby building sites, such as Long House. Tyuonyi is a circular pueblo site that once stood 1-3 stories tall. These sites date from the Pueblo III Era (1150 to 1350) to the Pueblo IV Era (1350 to 1600).

Petroglyphs, dwellings carved into the soft rock cliffs, and standing masonry walls pay tribute to the early days of a culture that still survives in the surrounding communities.

Fort Sumter was the scene of the opening battle of the Civil War on April 12, 1861 After a 34 hours siege the Fort, commanded by Major Robert Anderson and his Union Troops, surrendered. The Fort was then occupied by the Confederates and remained in their hands until shortly before the end of the war on February 17, 1865.

The Fort was named after the Revolutionary War General Thomas Sumter, it was one of several defensive sites located along the eastern coast of the US. Construction began in 1829 and continued for over thirty years until it was finally completed in 1861. Fort Sumter was built on a sand bar located at the entrance to the harbor in the Charleston. Several thousand tons of granite were used to create a five-sided 170 feet by 190 feet long structure made with walls that were five feet thick, it was an impressive fortress and an effective first line of defense against attacking forces in the region.

USA ~ Charleston - Rainbow Row ~

... Lovely picturesque street view... a row of colorful historic homes... one of the major tourist attraction and the most photographed area of historic Charleston... they are also the most exclusive, most expensive Charleston SC historic properties...Thanks a lot Andrene!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

Rainbow Row dates back to about 1740 and it used to be situated in the waterfront district of the city back in the 18thC.  It is the name for a series of thirteen colorful historic houses in Charleston, South Carolina. Rainbow Row represents the longest cluster of Georgian row houses in the US. The name Rainbow Row was coined after the pastel colors they were painted as they were restored in the 1930s and 1940s.

Common myths concerning Charleston include variants on the reasons for the paint colors. According to some tales, the houses were painted in the various colors such that the intoxicated sailors coming in from port could remember which houses they were to bunk in. In other versions, the colors of the buildings date from their use as stores; the colors were used so that owners could tell illiterate slaves which building to go to for shopping.
