SINGAPORE ~The Battle Box ~

...Nice postcard showings one of Singapore's World War II most historic landmarks. ... Thanks ?????
The Battle Box at Fort Canning is one of the most important World War II sites in Singapore. It is a massive military bunker located some 9 metres below ground in Fort Canning Park, and was where General Percival made the decision to surrender Singapore to the invading Japanese forces on 15 February 1942.

It was sealed off after the war, and refurbished in 1996. This final command conference is portrayed as accurately as possible.Wax figures of Lieutenant General Arthur Ernest Percival, and all the major officials with him at the time are modeled based on historical records and photographs. It is now open to the public.

SINGAPORE ~Cover~

Nice cover with sweet Christmas stamp...I can't imaging how it must feel to celebrate Christmas on a tropical island.:D Thanks Edna and for the great magnet included!
On October 17 2012, SingPost issued stamps on the four main festivals in Singapore which are: Christmas, Deepavali, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Even though Singaporeans don’t get to experience the four seasons, much less snow, we definitely know when the season to be jolly. Christmas in the Tropics is a month-long festival that takes the carnival to the streets in Singapore’s all-year round balmy, summer heat.

SINGAPORE ~Sir Stampford Raffles Statue~

What a coincidence, only a while ago I received a hotel postcard with the name of the founder of Singapore (see with my Singapore collection) and today a view of the man himself... :-)
It is a bit strange to see those small, I think traditional houses, in front of big modern skyscrapers.

And again also with such wonderful stamps!

Sir Stamford Raffles Statue stands out with a panoramic view of Boat Quay.
he statue of Singapore's founder, Sir Stamford Raffles, cast in dark bronze by Thomas Woolner stands in front of Victoria Theatre.A replica made of pure white polymarble stands at North Boat Quay, at an area colloquially known as Raffles Landing Site, as this is the spot where Raffles is believed to have first stepped ashore.
The Sir Stamford Raffles Statue in Singapore is situated along the Singapore River for a special reason. Sir Stamford Raffles divided up Singapore into different ethnic functional sub divisions that lived together harmoniously. He then went on to establish it as the largest trading port in the world - hence the significance of locating the status by the Singapore River.
