GERMANY ~ Lower Saxony State Museum - Hannover ~

... Another great museum view... it existed for more than 150 years and is the largest public museum in Lower Saxony, with about 7,000 square meters of exhibition space...  the extraordinarily broad spectrum of its collections makes it very attractive... it  contains a selection of paintings and sculptures spanning nine centuries... as well as interesting archaeological, ethnological and natural history exhibits... there are also changing special exhibitions on various topics... with nice special postmark about the 50th anniversary of the first Moon Landing! The Lower Saxony State Museum is located opposite the New City Hall and was opened in 1902, designed by Hubert Stier in a Neo-Renaissance style. It was renamed the State Museum in 1933, and finally the Lower Saxony State Museum of Hanover in 1950.

The museum has 4 sections:
-The State Gallery: the region’s better fine art from the middle ages to the 220th century, including some master work by Rubens and Rembrandt.
-The Archeology Department: a million artefacts covering half a million years of history, with the really good stuff ranging from early Stone Age to the late middle ages.
-The Ethnology Department: 20000 artworks, craftwork and artefacts from various exotic regions around the world.
-The Natural History Department: mostly Lower Saxony animals and plants, a vivarium with 2000 different species, and a life size model of a dinosaur.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber  is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavari. It is part of the popular Romantic Road through southern Germany.
Rothenburg was a Free Imperial City from the late Middle Ages to 1803.

The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" is German for "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words rot (red) and burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river.

Great museum postcard nr 4... especially waited to post it this Easter weekend because of the so cute and wonderful Easter postmark🥚🐰🥚... this postcard shows one of most beautiful rooms of the city...  the medieval Kaiser-Otto-Saal... with its 200 seats it can serve as a room for sophisticated ambience or events....the museum regularly presents special exhibitions on special themes related to art and cultural history... at the moment one about modern architecture...

The Magdeburg Cultural History Museum was opened in 1906 and its first director Theodor Volbehr (1862-1931) took over many art and craft collections from various societies and from the city which were exhibited in the centre of the museum as the most important witnesses to Magdeburg's rich past.

The building was planned and erected by the Viennese architect Friedrich Ohmann. Architectural elements were used to recall the splendour of Renaissance and Gothic style.  The eastern building was added in a second construction phase in 1912-1913.

The museum was partially destroyed at the end of the Second World War and suffered the nearly complete loss of its valuable exhibits which had been stored in other places for safe keeping. Reconstruction work began in 1945/46 and for practical reasons the Museum of Nature was added to the former Cultural Museum.

Beautiful building view and part of the most influential design school and world famous "Bauhaus"...2019 will mark the 100 anniversary since the world-famous Movement was founded... designed and by built by Walter Gropius... this semi-detached house is one of the greatest architectural achievements of the 20thC... the Bauhaus painters Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee worked and lived with their families in this semi-detached house located in a idyllically pine grove... after three years of renovation the master house shines in new splendor and was reopened for visitors April 17...  with as always great matching stamp and unique postmark👍... Nevertheless, the famous university of design wrote history, stands for Made in Germany, and provides important stimuli and impulses to questions of the present.

The Bauhaus buildings in Weimar, Dessau and Bernau are fundamental representatives of Classical Modernism, directed towards a radical renewal of architecture and design.The cubic buildings document the quest for building typification by using identical elements coupled with the highest architectural quality.

This house built in 1926 is part of the Meisterhaus ensemble and, together with the other master houses, has belonged to the Bauhaus UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

... Photo: Sh Shalchi The current museum is the result of the union of the Roemer Museum, founded in 1844 (and named after one of the founders, Herrmann Roemer), and the Pelizaeus Museum, established in 1911, that had housed the private collection of Egyptian antiques of Wilhelm Pelizaeus.

In 2000, the old building, originally built in the 1950s, was replaced by a new building, significantly increasing the space available for exhibitions.

In 1844, Herman Roemer (1816-1894), together with a number of citizens of Hildesheim, formed an association with the aim of establishing a museum of natural and ethnological history for their city. His subsequent travel throughout Egypt in 1870 aroused a deep interest in the art of ancient Egypt. But it was not until he met Wilhelm Pelizaeus (1851-1930), a native of Hildesheim living in Egypt, that Roemer first conceived the idea of an Egyptian room.

Great detailed cartoon map card... with the most adorable stamp and special postmark😍... even though only parts of the National Parks border region are included on the map I'm gonna ad it to my NP collection... the destination for active holidays and water-based fun... you can go for a a walk on the Dam... the cute stamp shows "Gruffalo" from a children's book by author Julia Donaldson... first published in 1999 and continues to be a popular read aloud.... the illustrations by Axel Scheffler are filled with bold color, detail and appealing characters... the Gruffalo is the story of a clever mouse, three large animals that want to eat him and an imaginary monster, a Gruffalo, who turns out to be only too real...to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Gruffalo the German Post issued this lovely stamp... The Edersee is an 11.8 km² reservoir in Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hesse with 199.3 million m³ of storage space. It has the 2nd largest area, and the 3rd largest volume, of all reservoirs in Germany. It is located on the Fulda Tributary of Eder behind the 48m high Edersee Dam.

The Edersee Dam is a hydroelectric dam constructed between 1908 to 1914 across the Eder river. The dam is primarily used hydroelectric power generation and to regulate water levels for shipping on the Weser river.

Lake Edersee is surrounded by more than 50 hills, which are covered by a sea of beech trees covering almost 6,000 hectares.

Lovely postcard showing a beautiful illustration of a fairy tale by the famous Brothers Grimm... they are among the best-known storytellers... with matching stamp and wonderful special postmark👍... this folktale really is what you expect from the Brothers Grimm... a smart, but wicked character, who cheats their way to fame, or fortune, or both, and a wicked plot to get rid of them... a simple tailor becomes king through a cleverness and more than a few misunderstandings.... curious about the rest of the tale??? you can read it "HERE"  Thanks a lot Dustin !!【ツ】

The Brothers Grimm, Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), were German scholars, linguists, cultural researchers, lexicographers and authors who together collected and published folk stories.


This simple tale has managed to inspire dozens of creative minds to create their own adaptations or to take elements of the story and make it their own. Some of the names intrigued and inspired by this German folk tale was Walt Disney.

 Mickey Mouse appeared in a 1938 Disney short cartoon, Brave Little Tailor, based on this tale.

GERMANY ~ Porpoise Whale - Wadden Sea National Park - UNESCO ~

... Wonderful view of Germany's only whale species and with beautiful matching whale postmark💙...  the most common whale in the North Sea and the only whale that occurs regularly in the Wadden Sea... but its population is decreasing... they are not so easy to spot... unlike other whales, porpoises rarely jump out of the water... from land or from a boat, the most likely time to spot them is in the winter... with two great different special First day postmarks... another little gem for my whale collection👍...Thanks so much Dustin!! ✿乂◕‿◕乂

"The Wadden Sea" the largest unbroken system of intertidal sand and mud flats in the world.(Germany, Netherlands and Denmark).

The total population of Porpoise whales in the North Sea is estimated at about 345.000 animals (2017). The density within the area changes seasonally. While densities increase along the coast of the Netherlands and Lower Saxony during late winter and early spring, high summer densities are observed in the eastern part of the German Bight along the coast of Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein.

The Harz is the northernmost German Mittelgebirge and the highest mountain range in Northern Germany.

It was established in its current form by the merging of the Upper Harz National Park and the Harz National Park in Lower Saxony in 2006 following the two National Parks uniting.

Today it is a protected area covering ± 24,700 ha. where numerous varieties of wildlife flourish and rare animals have been reintroduced.

... Today a lovely bit unusual🤶 🎄 greetings card ⭐✨... great combination of humor, satire and cartoon... I like it and made me giggle... just look at Santa😉... with matching Christmas stamp and sweet Santa Claus postmark... Germany has seven Santa Claus post offices... this year I got one from Engelskirchen... in this small town thousands of letters from around the world arrive at a seasonal Christmas post office... and for over 20 years, postal workers have written back... it will take a while but I hope to collect a postmark each year of all these Santa's post offices (will be in 2023!!)... Thanks a lot Dustin... Merry Christmas to you and your family too!!💖

The artist Rolf Tiemann was born in 1951 in Herford. After graduation he studied mathematics and physics and was from 1981 as a teacher of mathematics and computer science at the Gymnasium active.

From the mid-nineties Rolf Tiemann worked as an illustrator of prose texts.

Since 2014, the now retired teacher Rolf Tiemann works in his studio in Münster as a freelance artist. His current oil paintings, which can be assigned to the genre of comic art and  he writes and illustrates his own satirical texts

Philipp Scheidemann, (July 26, 1865- Nov. 29, 1939), German Social Democratic politician who, without party or government authorization, on Nov. 9, 1918, made the Weimar Republic a fact by proclaiming it from the balcony of the Reichstag. He later became the republic’s first chancellor.

Medieval statues representing the Margrave Ekkehard II of Meissen and his wife, Uta von Ballenstedt from the series of twelve life-size statues depicting the founding donors to the Naumburg Cathedral, 1243–1249.

Located at the Cathedral of Naumburg, in the west choir. It is one of the most important works of German Gothic sculpture, mid-13thC.

Since 2018 is the Naumburg Cathedral on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

GERMANY ~ Rose Window - Brunswick Cathedral ~

... Wonderful "Rose glass stained window" located in the west facade of the cathedral... designed by Heinz Hindorf, one of the premier stained glass artists of the 20thC... it's made of a series of smaller windows radiating out from the center like wheel spokes or flower petals... their symbolism lies in geometry and the sense that many parts make a whole... every element has a degree of meaning... with beautiful "matching" stained glass window Christmas stamp and lovely special postmark!! GERMANY ~ Fagus Factory - Alfeld - UNESCO ~

... Great new UNESCO site... an early and important masterpiece of international modernism... the exterior is fascinating with the large glass windows and unsupported corners... it was designed to manufacture shoe lasts, (the small moulds around which shoes are made)... even though the factory is operational, there are tours through all areas including past the production lines... there is also an excellent museum over several floors of the old warehouse that tells the story of the building and the business... with wonderful World Post Day postmark and also matching UNESCO and World Post day stamp💚... Big Thanks dear Dustin for once more many great unique items!(✿ ♥‿♥)

The construction of the architectural complex started in 1911. It was built by the architect Walter Gropius. Light was required for work purposes: this lead to an almost entirely glazed building, via the innovative use of "curtain walls" (vast glass panels). It was a major break with the existing architectural and decorative values of the time.

The site contains 10 buildings, including a sawmill. Although constructed with different systems, all of the buildings on the site give a common image and appear as a unified whole. All buildings have a base of about 40cm of black brick and the rest is built of yellow bricks.

It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.

GERMANY ~ St. Nicholas Church - Leipzig ~

... German beauty nr3... a church related to two important events in history... Johann Sebastian Bach was the musical director of St Nicholas Church and many of his works were premiered here.... what makes it one of Leipzig's Musical Heritage sites... and this church became famous in 1989 with the Monday Demonstrations, a peaceful revolt against Communist rule in East Germany, which was the forerunner to the fall of the Berlin Wall...with great special "Stamp Day" postmark... Thanks a lot Dustin!!

The St. Nicholas Church is is the largest church in Leipzig. Construction started in Romanesque style in 1165, but in the 16th century, the church was turned into a Gothic hall church. Baroque elements like the tower were added in the 18th century.The interior has been classicist in style since the end of the 18th century.

... A beautiful artwork... highpoint of European Classicism... these beautiful marble statues depict Princesses Luise and her sister Friederike of Prussia and were commissioned by the royal family... located on floor one of the museum, this double statue is particularly important to the art world as it was the first time that women were depicted in this format... and once more as extra bonus, a fantastic matching stamp and special postmark😍... The collection of the The Old National Gallery (Alte Nationalgalerie) is one of the largest collection of art between the French Revolution and the First World War, between Classicism and secession. Unique is the harmony between the collection and the style of the building.

The Old National Gallery is one of the museums that make up the world famous National Museums of Berlin, and together with the Old (Altes), Bode, New (Neues), and Pergamon museums located on the city’s Museum Island, it was listed in 1999 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

... Nice postcard showing a famous cult classic in Germany... a short British cabaret sketch from the 1920s.... every year at New Year’s Eve their public television broadcasts the classic, black-and-white English-language version... strangely enough almost unknown in the English-speaking world, including Britain, its birthplace... not known in Belgium either... had to look it up on You Tube... maybe any of my blog readers know or seen it🤔??... with great matching stamp and beautiful postmark👍 issued 55 years after the first telecast of the now classic sketch... Thanks a lot Dustin!! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

Dinner for One, also known as The 90th Birthday, is a two-hander comedy sketch written by British author Lauri Wylie for the theatre. It is a 18-minute single-take black-and-white recording featuring British comedians Freddie Frinton and May Warden.

The sketch presents the 90th birthday of elderly upper-class Englishwoman Miss Sophie, who hosts a dinner every year for her close friends Mr. Pommeroy, Mr. Winterbottom, Sir Toby and Admiral von Schneider to celebrate the occasion. The problem is that given Miss Sophie's considerable age, she has outlived all of her friends, and so butler James makes his way around the table, impersonating each of the guests in turn. Unfortunately for him, this means participating in each toast of the four-course dinner...

... Great view of Germany's newest UNESCO site... it is considered one of the most important cathedrals built during the High Middle Ages... an 800-year-old cultural landmark that is famous for its late- Romanesque and early-Gothic architecture... last year 150,000 visitors visited the cathedral... many came to pay tribute to "Uta van Naumburg" who is considered to be the most beautiful woman of the Middle Ages... and I've been spoiled once more with such a "sweet"😍 mail related special Snoopy postmark... This 13thC cathedral (built manly between 1213 and 1250) is located in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The exterior has four towers with an adjoining cloister, and the inside has two choirs, the western one holds the statues of the founders.

The church has several magnificent altars, medieval stained-glass windows and a treasury with religious masterpieces, including some Lucas Cranach paintings and one of Germany’s oldest Pietas, from the 14thC

The crypt of the chapel that preceded the cathedral is under the eastern choir and is open to visitors.

The Naumburg Cathedral was declared as a UNESCO heritage site in July 2018.

The "Baumwipfelpfad Harz" or Tree Top Trail is located in the town of Bad Harzburg at the northern edge of Harz National Park and was opened in 2015.

The Tree Top Trail runs for a kilometer through the forest and is set 22 meters above the ground with 18 platforms, bridges and 33 viewing stations.
