TURKEY ~ Sumela Monastery - Altındere Valley National Park - UNESCO Tentative List ~

... A spectacular view of a Greek Orthodox monastery... built at a height of 1200m into a cliff on a steep mountain... an amazing piece of architecture... one of the oldest monasteries in the Christian world, though it is no longer located in a Christian country... set in the beautiful Altindere National Park, overlooking lush forests and water streams, and blessed with a rich history and religious importance... on a clear day, the views from the high-up Monastery of the valley below are just breathtaking... it's the most magnificent and hierarchical of the many monasteries in this region... the interior has also been extensively restored, and has got interesting Greek Orthodox frescoes on the walls... as it was in the past, it is the most well known and most visited of the monasteries today... Thanks a lot Burak!✿◕ ‿ ◕✿
