Horton Plains National Park at Ohiya is a protected area in the central highlands and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an elevation of 2,100–2,300 metres above sea level is rich in biodiversity and home to an extraordinary range of flora and fauna.
This region was designated a national park in 1988.
Sri Lanka’s Highlands along with Horton Plains National Park, the Peak Wilderness Protected Area and the Knuckles Conservation Forest was declared a World Heritage site in 2006.
