Toroweap Overlook is a viewpoint within the Grand Canyon National Park and is located in a remote area on the North Rim. The overlook is the only viewpoint in the National Park from where the Colorado River can be seen vertically below. The overlook stands 3,000 feet (910 m) above the river.
The Grand Canyon was carved over some 6 million years and covers an area of 4,926 square kilometers. It runs for 277 miles (446 km) in length along the Colorado River and has a maximum width of around 18 miles (29 km), as well as a maximum depth of just over a mile (6,093 feet / 1,857 m).
It became a National Park in 1919 and UNESCO site in 1979.
