UKRAINE ~Kiev~

This last day of may I received a breathtaking view of the interior of a Cathedral...Immediately I noticed the beautiful blue color (The color is much nicer on the card than on this view)! I read on the intenet that this St. Vladimir Cathedral a "must see" tourist attraction is in Kiev and I certainly believe it...:-)

Saint Vladimir Cathedral is one of the most beautiful temples in Kiev. It was built in the 19th century .Among the most precious frescoes of Saint Vladimir Cathedral are Vasnetsov's works The Baptizing of Kievers, Virgin with the Child, The Baptizing of Vladimir and others.

UKRAINE ~UNESCO~

Found two great cards in my mailbox today... A really spectacular night bridge view of Taiwan! The color of the water and sky are almost purple...
And another nice interior view of an Ukrainian church, wich is again a UNESCO site.... Just look at the ceiling, the woodwork, the paintings... Wonderful!!

Vsikhsvyatska (All-Saints') Church, 1696-98. Located above the Economic Gate in the Ukrainian Baroque style. At the beginning of the 20th century the interior was decorated with pictorial and ornamental oil paintings. Fragments of 17th century paintings have been uncovered. Contains a carved and gilded wood iconostasis from the 18th century. One of the finest monuments of Ukrainian Baroque architecture.

UKRAINE ~St Sophia Cathedral-UNESCO~

.... Two totally different and UNESCO cards today, but both really impressive views. Ukraine must be my fastest growing collection!:-) Card nr 4 this week!!!
On the back of the China card: " Fairyland at West Sea" I think that says it all... Even the stamp shows the mountain.

The St Sophia's Cathedral mosaics and frescos are almost one thousand years. The mosaic image of ORANTA is a unique masterpiece. (View on postcard)The interior of the Cathedral is as majestic as its exterior. It is divided by huge piers into five aisles, three of which end in altar apses. In the south-western corner, inside the tower, there is a wide spiral in relatively small, modest buildings of the 12th - 16th centuries. It’s mosaics and frescos are almost one thousand years. The mosaic image of Oranta is a unique masterpiece

PHILIPPINES ~ Miagao Church - UNESCO~

These four churches, the first of which was built by the Spanish in the late 16th century, are located in Manila, Santa Maria, Paoay and Miag-ao. Their unique architectural style is a reinterpretation of European Baroque by Chinese and Philippine craftsmen.

The church was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 together with San Agustin Church in Manila; Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion Church in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur; and San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte under the collective title Baroque Churches of the Philippines, a collection of four Baroque Spanish-era churches.

IRELAND ~Dublin-Christ Church Cathedral~

And an envelope with two beautiful cards from Ireland... A country that is on top of my whislist for a visit. I think its a great place for hiking..

One of the finest of the city's historic buildings, it stands on St. Michael's hill overlooking the river Liffey. Founded in 1038 by the Danish king Sitric 'Silkenbeard", it was rebuilt by the Norman "Stongbow" for the St. Laurence O'Toole (patron Daint of Dublin) in the years following 1170. The interior is very beautiful, displaying magnificent stone works and graceful arches with delicately chiseled supporting columns. In the extensive crypt may be seen many ancient items of interest.
