SCOTLAND ~Glenfinnan and the viaduct~


Glenfinnan Viaduct is a railway viaduct on the West Highland Line in Glenfinnan on the west coast of Scotland. It was built between 1897 and 1901. Located at the top of Loch Shiel in the West Highlands of Scotland, the viaduct overlooks the Glenfinnan Monument and the waters of Loch Shiel.

scotland ~Eilean Donan Castle-Loch Duich~

Sent by Sarah. Eilean Donan Castle (13th C) is situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet and surrounded by some majestic scenery. Its now one of the most visited and important attactions in the Scottisch higlands.

scotland ~Ring of Brodgar-Unesco Site~

Sent by Sarah.This perfectly circular henge monument originally comprised 60 megaliths, of wich 27 remain standing today. 125 'Megalithic yards' (103.7m) in diameter, and surrounded by a 10m wide by 3m deep rockcut ditch, the Ring dates from the third millenium BC, and is now part of the "Heart of Neolithic Orkney" World Heritage Site.

Sent by Srah.Boreray and Stacs from Hirta the main island. It was nearly continously inhabited by humans for 2000 years. St Kilda contains magnificient sea cliffs,sea bird colonies (the most numourus birds are puffins) and remains of past human settlement. The island group of four small islands; Hirta, Dun Boreray and the sea stacs are on the list of Unesco World Heritage Site

SCOTLAND ~Elgin Cathedral-Moray~

The Elgin Cathedral was first destroyed in 1390 by the "Wolf of Badenach", son of King Robert II, who was excommunicated because he left his wife, so he took his revenge by burning down the Cathedral. it was rebuilt and used for a while but abandoned about 1560 during the Reformation and felt into ruins over the centuries.
