The state of Sabah is located in the Northern most portion of the island of Borneo. Sabah Parks has created a marine park around three islands in the Sulu Sea about 40 km North of Sandakan, which is important areas for the breeding of the Green Turtle.

This turtle is the second largest of the seven species of sea turtle. Like most of them, the green turtle has been hunted by human for flesh, eggs and shell. The green turtle spends most of its live in the sea. The females come a shore to lay their eggs for only a very short time. From 1000 eggs, just one or two survive their first year. There are either eaten by fish, birds or other sea creatures.

MALAYSIA ~Rubber Tapping~

And a great and interesting Malaysian card...I didn't realize it was that labor intensive to harvest rubber.

Malaysia has always such great stamps!!

Each night a rubber tapper removes a thin layer of bark along a downward half spiral on the tree trunk. If done carefully and with skill, this tapping panel will yield latex for up to 5 years. Then the opposite side will be tapped allowing this side to heal over. The spiral allow the latex to run down to a collecting cup. (here a coconut shell is used as cup) The work is done at night so the latex will run longer before drying out.
The latex from multiple trees is then poured into flat pans, and this is mixed with formic acid, which serves as a coagulant. After a few hours, the very wet sheets of rubber are wrung out by putting them through a press before they are sent onto factories where vulcanization and further processing is done.

MALAYSIA ~The Porta de Santiago~

Thanks a lot Wang Lei for taking the time to send me a postcard during your visit to Malaca, Malaysia! I think the wedding pictures must be great... :D

The Porta de Santiago is one of the four main gates of the A Famosa fortress. It was built by the Portuguese in 1512 under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque, the leader of the Portuguese army that seized Malacca in 1511. For almost 150 years, this magnificent fort had successfully protected the Portuguese position in Melaka, until it was overrun by the Dutch. It was damaged during the attack, but the Dutch later repaired and renamed it VOC with an embossed emblem. But unfortunately what is left until today is nothing more than a gateway called Porta de Santiago.

But sadly due to the careless of people they are threatened with extinction... :-( Hopefully sea turtle sanctuary like this can save them...

Different stages of the turtle life cycle. Adult turtles take about 30 years to mature before they can repodruce. Along the coast of Terrengganu, east coast of peninsular Malaysia is the mayor nesting site for the green and hawksbill turtles.

The iconic Sultan Abdul Samad building is located in front of Dataran Merdeka and Royal Selangor Club.
It was completed in 1897 by A.C. Norman and was used to house several government departments at the time of the British administration in Malaya. Today, this historical building houses the Supreme and High Courts. The building with unique Moorish designs and clock tower is widely photographed by visitors to the city centre. On important occasions, the building is decorated with colourful lights and flags. MALAYSIA

This set of 4 Malaysian cards are the largest ones I ever received. They all are 20cm by 15cm....

This scene was taken on Thaipusam Day held once a year attracting up to a million Hindu devotees and spectators. The festival which celebrates the birthday of Lord Subramaniam is a colurful affair with beating drums, chanting and the carrying of "Kavadis" to the temples located inside the limestone caves. The main temple cave has a ceiling of over 100m in height.

A popular and picturesque recreational retrait for city folks, Lake Titiwangsa is nested amidst lush greenery a backdrop of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.Tis venue is also a favourite location for festive celebrations, open air concerts and family-orientated events.

Putraya is the new <administrative Centre of the Federal Government of Malaysia.Situated 25km from Kuala Lumpur and 20km from the International Airport, the development of Putrajaya marks a new chaper in the history of modern city planning in Malaysia.

Amidst distinct architecture within Kuala Lumpur is the ever overwhelming skyscraper, the Petronas Twin Towers. Its 452m profile is decorated with traditional Islamic geometrics with the two towers linked by a skybridge on the 41st and 42nd levels.
