Bethlehem is a Palestinian city located in the central West Bank, about 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem by the hill country of Judea on the way to Hebron. The city  is the birthplace of Jesus and therefore a holy site to Christians around the world.

The city is sacred to all three religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  In Hebrew, the town is called Bet Lehem ("House of Bread" ) and, in Arabic, it is Bet Lahm ("House of Meat").

Bethlehem has a population of approximately 50,000 people, with the Muslims holding a slight majority.
