SRI LANKA ~Colombo City~

...Received card nr 35 from the wonderful island Sri Lanka today...not showing "ancient" history this time...but my first postcard with modern skyscrapers on...I didn't know the capital is located on the very blue looking ocean (Indian)...Many thanks Ravindra for a new view of your gorgeous island!!

Again with so great stamps used (I must have already more than 100 different ones). The variety of stamps in sri lanka must be huge!!:D
Colombo is the largest city and the commercial, industrial and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and the parliament capital of Sri Lanka.
Due to its large harbour and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago.

With view of harbour Stupa:This is a impressive Buddhist stupa (dagoba) which can be seen miles away by those entering Colombo by sea. It was built by the port workers of Colombo in 1956 to commemorate the 2500th year of Buddhism. The stupa is an example of modern architecture borrowing elements from the past.
